BMI Calculator

Your Body Mass Index or BMI is based on your height and weight. It is calculated as weight (in kilograms) divided by height squared (in meters). It is used to determine if a person is underweight, at a healthy weight, overweight or obese. While BMI is accurate for most people, it can be miscalculated in people who are muscular or athletic or have poor nutrition. Note: This BMI calculation is only accurate in adults.

BMI is directly related to body fat. The relation between fatness and BMI changes depending on age and gender. Women are more likely to have a higher percentage of body fat than men for the same BMI. Also, older adults usually have more body fat than younger adults with the same BMI.

What is ideal body weight?
One estimate: 5 ft. = 100 pounds. Add 5 pounds per inch over 5 ft. Note: there could be a 10-20% difference depending on your body frame and build.

Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions on where to find something or how to sign up for one of our Fitness Offers? Before calling in, see if your questions and answers are below:

Q: What if my city isn’t included in the Interactive Map?
A: Not all cities are included in our Interactive Map, only the major cities of each state. The quickest and easiest way to find health clubs near you is to enter your zip code and hit the ‘locate a club’ button. You can enter your zip code on the Health Club page or in the Health Club Overview section.

Q: Once I contact a personal trainer, how do I begin?
A: You will receive an email with further instructions within a few days. After talking with your trainer, the email will have a link for you to complete your purchase and allow you to get started towards a more active, healthier you! Click here to begin searching for personal trainers in your city.

Q: Can I choose the gender of my personal trainer?
A: Yes. We understand that some people are only comfortable training with someone of their same gender. Your zip code search will list trainers in your area and provide key information including gender. Click here to begin searching for personal trainers in your city.

Q: Can I use the Personal Trainer Services at a Gold’s Gym or Curves at the same rates in the ACE Personal Training Program?
A: The ACE program rates only apply to ACE personal training services obtained through the AARP fitness program. While you are free to utilize the personal training programs offered at any health club, you would only be able to do so at the AARP member rates if that personal trainer participates in the AARP Fitness: ACE Trainer Program.

Q: What if there isn’t a Curves or Gold’s near me?
A: Gold’s or Curves have the most locations of any of the health clubs in the world, but there is still a chance that there won’t be one in your town. Our suggestion is that you look into home training with the assistance of a personal trainer or locate another fitness option in your community that can meet your needs. Click here to begin searching for personal trainers near you.

Q: What if I do not have an email address in order to sign up for the health club offer?
A: Please explore having a family member sign you up online. If that is not an option, please contact the call center at 1-866-425-6480 and a Representative will complete the sign up for you.

Q: Can I take advantage of the discount on the enrollment fee at Curves if I’m already a Curves member?
A: Unfortunately, the discount on the enrollment fee is for new members who are not currently a member of Curves. Existing members already paid their one time enrollment fee. At this time, there is no discount on the monthly membership fee at Curves.

Q: Can I take advantage of the discount on the monthly membership fee at Gold’s Gym if I’m already a member of the gym?
A: Once, your existing health club membership term has expired, please work with your local Gold’s Gym to take advantage of the AARP member discount on your monthly membership fee.

Q: What if I lose my health club enrollment confirmation?
A: An enrollment confirmation will also be emailed to you for you to print and take with you to the selected health club. If you do not have your confirmation when you go to complete the health club sign up, the club selected should also have your enrollment confirmation.

Q: What if there isn’t a personal trainer near me?
A: Please let us know by calling 1-888-234-9229 and we will work with ACE to add a trainer from your area to the program.
